Human definitions of the Sanctuary is, that it is part of the church. Or, like Sanctuary Cove, a holiday resort. Or some other guessing.

But what is the BIBLE's definition of the Sanctuary? The word sanct or sanctum implies holiness! GOD told the Israelite Church in the wilderness to make Him a Sanctuary that GOD Himself may dwell among them [  Exodus 25:8 ]. So the first definition of the Sanctuary is that it is GOD'S Dwelling place. GOD gave Moses a blueprint and the instructions that the measurements had to be followed into every detail.
The Sanctuary consisted of two places, the holy and the most holy place. The latter also became known as the holy of holiest.

The holy and the most holy places of this sanctuary were surrounded by a court yard. The inner court was only for the Jews and the outer for the Gentiles. GOD had long ago introduced the sacrificial system for sin to Adam and Eve, but having arrived in Moses's time, the human mind was no longer capable of remembering everything.

Now GOD gave it in visible form. The plan of salvation was now acted out. The innocent lamb symbolized JESUS CHRIST who would come as the Messiah or Saviour of mankind to save us from sin.

What is sin? The apostle had not known what sin was until the 10 Commandment law told him that he should not covet. Our sinful and lustful desires of the flesh is what we are to fight and overcome as JESUS did. But not in His or our strength, but by the supernatural power of the Holy Spirit.

So let's get an overview: The centre of Israel was Jerusalem. The centre of Jerusalem was its holy Temple. The centre of the Temple was the most holy place. The centre of the most holy place was the ark of the covenant consisting of GOD'S throne called the mercy seat located on top of the ark of the covenant. The centre of the ark was the presence of GOD and the 10 Commandments.

Since this is a blueprint, the heavenly temple or sanctuary looks just like that. We are not to guess or make any other image out of it.





JESUS CHRIST is now our great and high Priest in the heavenly Sanctuary Temple. See Hebrews 8.

The New Jerusalem has no need of a Temple anymore because the sacrificial system ends with our human probation. Since our GOD wants to dwell inside us, He can do so only through His Son JESUS CHRIST by faith.

The daily of the earthly Sanctuary Temple was defiled by sin. Once a year the cleansing of the Temple took place, which was known as the day of Atonement.  Christians have accepted the atonement of JESUS on the cross for their sins. But JESUS must also become our present Saviour from sin [Matthew 1:21].

In the Sanctuary services, the cleansing was the final atonement [at-one-ment] when sin was eradicated from the Believer/Confessor. In the heavenly Temple this took place for us in 1844 at the end of the 2300 days of years according to Daniel 8:14
JESUS Himself directed us to it in Matthew 24:15 cf. Daniel 8:13-14.

When our Priest JESUS finished His ministry in the first apartment like the earthly Temple had foreshadowed it, He closed the door to the daily and started on the record books of sin for those who died long ago. One day soon, it will start with us who are alive today and then the end will come quickly.
